A JOURNEY TO FIND BALANCE WITHIN ENTREPRENEURSHIP + MOMMYHOOD + HEALTH
“The time will pass anyway, you can either spend it creating the life you want, or spend it living the life you don’t want. The choice is yours.” -anonymous
I wouldn’t have my life any other way. A wife to Jamie, Mommy to Kailee & Kaiden, Photographer for 13 years, A life changing journey, An opportunity to help others to change their lives for the better. My life isn’t perfect… I’ve made MANY mistakes, but I wouldn’t change any of it because my story has made me who i am today. Our stories are powerful, and sharing them can be scary, because it puts everything out in the open, but it can also be freeing, because sometimes people need to see the imperfections, to know that they are not alone. I pray my story can help people find out who they are.
My Story. My Life. My Choices. .... Our Choices Make Us Who We Are.
A Glimpse INTO MY PERSONAL JOURNEY
A journey that changed my life forever... In 2004 I got married and started a photography business, all around the same time. A huge life change, but a good one.
When I started doing photography I began working 70+ hours a week. A career in photography is a lot of work, and takes a lot of time. Weekends and nights away from family because of shooting, and the editing and business side during the weekdays. I put my heart and soul into my work and my clients.
Unfortunately, because I was so busy, I stopped caring for myself and slowly started gaining weight. As a high school and college athlete, I knew I needed to find time to get to the gym, but I never could make the time... it just wasn't a priority. I had clients, and a business to run, and that truly controlled my life.
In 2008, I had my first child. WOW…. what a shock. Being a mom is like nothing I have ever experienced. The ups and downs, the emotions. Being a working mom is super difficult as well, and I struggled with the balance. I worked hard to be a good mom AND a good business owner, but I was gone away from my daughter while she was at school most days, plus most weekends and most evenings (with photoshoots)....it was wearing and hard....but, my determined entrepreneur spirit pushed hard and I made it work. I love this quote, because it's so true,
"Entrepreneurs are willing to work 80 hours a week to AVOID working 40 hours a week. “ - Lori Greiner.
It's so true right? For those of you who are working moms, you get this.... you are ALWAYS working. There is no break!!
Now, as a mom, balancing work, Mommyhood, and being a good wife, the struggle continued. I remember sitting in my closet in tears because I was trying so hard to loose the weight from my daughter, and couldn't do it. I HATED how I looked, and I hated me even more, because I couldn't figure out how to make it all work. Depression, self doubt, and loathing of myself creeped in. I was so defeated and I literally just one day gave up.
2014, me, after my son was born (right)
In 2014 we had our 2nd child, a little boy…. but with the birth of my son, I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. I was fighting PPD, trying to still run a business, be a good mom, and my relationship with my husband was on the rocks - it was bad. What I thought was a “dream” life, was really a life falling apart quickly. On the outside it looked like things were amazing, my business was going well, my family was growing, and on social media… it was all perfect. But in the background my life was a total and complete mess.
About a month after my son was born I went to visit a high school friend (picture on the left) and we got a photo taken. I looked at it after and cried. This wasn't me... both of us had played sports in Highschool and she looked amazing.. she had been running marathons and was a mom! Looking back, she was a big inspiration (she probably might not know it) in me realizing things had to change. I knew I HAD to figure this thing out... In order for me to survive mentally, through all of what I was going through, I had to get my physical body and my mind in shape.
INTO MY PERSONAL JOURNEY
HEALTH COACH + FITNESS
I found my why, and dove in head first… I haven’t looked back. Once I figured out HOW to do it, I accomplished my goal of losing 85 pounds and have still maintained keeping it off. Leading others, and showing them that they can also make this a reality, is my new passion.
In 2016 I made a big choice. I choose to step away from photography (something that I have done for over 13 years), and instead help others find "HOW" to make this healthy balanced lifestyle a reality. I struggled so hard as a mom and business owner, finding the balance in it all, and until I stepped away and started to take care of myself, I didn't realize the importance of self care, especially as a woman. Photography had been consuming every aspect of my life, and instead of finding balance, I had lost myself.
I have now taken time for ME... I have learned the importance of balance, self development, and health. My heart and passion is to help other women who struggle with the same things I did (and still sometimes do) find their "WHY" and "GET IT". My passion is to mentor other women in health, fitness, and entrepreneurship; to see that they can have it all, as long as they take time for themselves and then in return pay it forward. When WE as moms, women, business owners, take time for ourselves, we in turn are able to take care of those around us because we are in a better mind frame to do so. It’s about finding balance in what you love, and what your mind and body need, so that you can be the best you.
One of the biggest tools that helped me in my journey was finding a coach... someone who would come alongside me and teach me HOW to eat clean, workout consistently, and find balance. Without my coach, I wouldn't be where I am today... which is why now I do this to pay it forward. I have created a community... an amazing and safe community where women can come and be vulnerable and find answers to HOW. We don't always get it right, but we know that we will continue to try and fight for our health. I am in LOVE with coaching and helping women with their fitness. This is what I am meant to be doing at this time in life.
It’s not always easy, and it might take some early mornings, hard work, and tears, but in the end, it’s worth it. I promise!
