DIGGING DEEP

I've started reading a new book called "The Gifts of Imperfection" by Brene Brown. So far, in just the first chapter I've gotten some great things out of it. I think I'm going to like this one and it will be just up my ally.

 

One of the things I read about today was the idea of DIGGING DEEP. Many of us dig deep and push through (especially us women)… we find that extra umph and just get it all done…. when we are too tired in the middle of the night to get up to one more sick child, when we are over the pile of dishes that are piling up, the laundry that seems to go on forever, the ever growing to do list (that never gets done)…. that’s when we dig in and push the dig-deep button.

 

But it’s exhausting… it’s exhausting to push that button all the time… to push through the exhaustion and just keep being exhausted. Most of the time we deplete ourselves and self care goes out the window. We can’t give up on it all - it needs to get done, but we also need to take care of ourselves, so it’s a hard balance.

 

I love what Brene says,

 

“Men and women who live wholeheartedly do indeed DIG deep. They just do it in a different way. When they’re exhausted and overwhelmed, they get..

 

Deliberate in their thoughts and behaviors through prayer, meditation, or simply setting their intentions.

 

Inspired to make new and different choices

 

Going. They take action."

 

Get that? They DIG?

 

Lately, this is something that I've had to do... when I am overwhelmed and sitting at the computer trying to tackle my work to do list, I find myself getting so sidetracked with social media and all the other things that make me not focus... I have been intentionally trying to calm my thoughts, stop and regain focus. I reset my intentions and remind myself that I CAN focus and get things done. I MUST make a different choice and focus in order to be productive. I must actually take action and make a change.

I think this is life.. it's overwhelming and sometimes seems unbearable. We have to learn how to change our mindset and do things differently. Sometimes it does mean letting the dishes and laundry go undone for a bit, so that you can rest and take some time with your family or for yourself.... other times it means just refocusing what you are currently doing so that you can be more productive.
